    About This Project

The Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park is busy transforming the future. The Research Park's Commercialization Centre is Canada's largest clean-tech incubator, focused on large-scale industrial biotechnology. It is home to over 30 companies including start-ups. For the past three years, the research park has boasted an occupancy rate of about 90 per cent. This is partly due to the  centre having one of the lowest per-square-foot energy costs of all institutional/commercial users in the province. Energy use to represent 30 per cent of their operating costs. The research park is now on track to realize energy savings of approximately 44 percent, or just over 2.4 million kWh annually.

The research park installed a 2G patruus 400 kW natural gas CHP. They use the thermal energy generated from the CHP to heat all their buildings from the end of September to November and March to mid-June; only needing supplemental heat for those very cold Canadian winter months in between. They use all the electricity produced. The engine was commissioned in September 2018 and has been 90% efficient. A noticeable savings in energy costs has been noted, between $150,000 - $200,000 on an annual basis. The research park also utilizes service options through one the Service Packages offered by 2G Energy. This ensures smooth operation and guaranteed up times for the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park.
